Was Obama’s win a landslide?

If you only look at the electoral votes, yes it was, well, devastating. However if you look at the actual votes from voters it was a really close race. From Hot Air:

In 2004, Bush beat John Kerry by winning 62.04 million votes. In 2008, Obama won 62.443 million, a gain of only 400,000. In 2004, Kerry garnered 59.028 million votes; John McCain only got 55.386 million. That means this election saw 3.24 million fewer votes than four years ago. Far from being more energized, the nation appeared to be more apathetic.

Somehow I don’t think he knows what the term “honest” means.

I have to agree a bit with Bill Hennessy. We need strong leadership in our party and we need it NOW. Newt Gingrich also mentioned the call for stronger Republican leadership in his book, Real Change.

We also need serious backing to make it happen. The question then, is who will step up? Who will fight the unions, the MoveOn.org’s, etc. Who??

8:00: It is official, with California, Obama is the president elect.

7:41: Obama win Virginia. It is definitely over.

7:36: Reid and Pelosi speaking in Washington

7:34: FNC still won’t call Florida, but says it still looks really good for Obama

7:04: McCain camp says “there doesn’t appear to any path”

7:03: Looks like the dems won’t get that magic number of 60 senate seats.

7:00: McCain wins Texas. No surprise.

6:50: Obama didn’t run as a liberal? Wow, that is a new one.

First state called

Fox News is reporting that Kentucky is the first state called for McCain. Although Virginia now has two Democrat senators, the first since 1970. That might mean that Obama also has that state. We shall see…

And rightfully so, McCain is suing to allow them to count until the 14th in Virginia. For whatever reason many troops are just now getting their absentee ballots and should be allowed to vote.

If a domestic terrorist can vote, our troops better be able to.

The fraud has started

GOP Election Board members have been tossed out of polling stations in at least half a dozen polling stations in Philadelphia because of their party status.

A Pennsylvania judge previously ruled that court-appointed poll watchers could be NOT removed from their boards by an on-site election judge, but that is exactly what is happening, according to sources on the ground.

It is the duty of election board workers to monitor and guard the integrity of the voting process.

Denying access to the minority (in this case Republican) poll watchers and inspectors is a violation of Pennsylvania state law. Those who violate the law can be punished with a misdemeanor and subjected to a fine of $1,000 and sent to prison between one month and two years.

Those on site are describing the situation as “pandemonium” and there may be video coming of the chaos.

Update: Fox News just did a report about the controversy. The Democrats are saying that the polling station is crowded and election board members need to cycle through the areas intermittently.

Update 10:53am: Pennsylvania Secretary of State Pedro Cortes says this matter is already being heard in court and should be resolved soon. He says there was a dispute of the names of the poll watchers on record. This is a different story than the Democratic officials told Fox News earlier this morning.

And we have the story of 100,000 voters from Georgia that have registered in Ohio or Florida.

Unbelievable, absolutely unbelievable.

Ace has an entertaining, if not somewhat true, account of what the election day/night will look like.

As for myself and my wife, it will certainly be a tense evening. I told her that we have a bottle of wine (or two) opened up and consumed. I don’t know if it will be for victorious reasons or sorrow. We shall see. However, if McCain does win, I have a cigar that I’ve been saving for about a year and half now for a special occasion. And I think a McCain win would warrant lighting it up.
