What can you say about Senator Foley and his little instant message escapades? Oh a few things can come to mind pretty quickly like pervert, pathetic, sexual deviant, etc. Perhaps though the best description is well, just another politician. That isn’t to say that all politicians are out sending nasty messages to their pages or having interludes with their interns, but face it, the vast majority of politicians are pretty screwed up to begin with. Of course this does not excuse what Foley did and watching him cry and say that he is going to rehab or whatever it completely laughable.
Yes he should be kicked out of congress and face any prosecution that is coming to him. He should not be allowed to go to rehab and claim that he is healed and make appologies about his behavior and then be excused. Naturally the democrats want Dennis Hastert to resign because he allegadly knew about Foley’s actions and covered it up or brushed it aside. Sure the right thing to do would have been to have Foley removed from office upon first evidence, but that isn’t the political way to handle things. One must protect the party right? If both parties weren’t so hell bent on the destruction of the other, there wouldn’t be a need to such close protection of one’s own.
Look at this way, if the republicans would have investigated Foley some time ago and asked for his resignation, do you really think the democrats would have said “Good job, you did the right thing.” and moved on? Oh no, they would have pounced all over it and made a media circus out of the whole thing. The republicans would have tried to do the same thing, but they are not nearly as good at it as the democrats are and with the democrat spin machine always ready for a good washing, it wouldn’t have amounted to much.
So the republicans take a hit right before elections and the democrats score a few brownie points with the public for doing absolutely nothing useful.
