GM invests outside the US

Back in November I mentioned what I would do if I was GM and got a bailout. Well, it seems like GM is starting down route by taking 1 billion they received from the government and investing it in Brazil.

From The Latin American Herald Tribune:

SAO PAULO — General Motors plans to invest $1 billion in Brazil to avoid the kind of problems the U.S. automaker is facing in its home market, said the beleaguered car maker.

According to the president of GM Brazil-Mercosur, Jaime Ardila, the funding will come from the package of financial aid that the manufacturer will receive from the U.S. government and will be used to “complete the renovation of the line of products up to 2012.”

“It wouldn’t be logical to withdraw the investment from where we’re growing, and our goal is to protect investments in emerging markets,” he said in a statement published by the business daily Gazeta Mercantil.

While I don’t relish the thought of my tax dollars going to investment in another country, it isn’t like they spent $50 million on a new jet or something stupid like that. If anything it might help the US company stay afloat in the future, which is good for the US economy.

Didn’t Obama say he didn’t want any earmarks in this stimulus package?

So much for that idea, this so-called stimulus package is full of garbage:

Here are some numbers/items (remember, all in the name of “saving jobs, and saving America’s economy”):

Page 41: The Coast Guard wants more than $572 million for “Acquisition, Construction, & Improvements” They claim these funds will create 1,235 new jobs. Crunch the numbers and this brings the cost of “creating” each job to a staggering $460,000+

Page 23: $200 million for Dep. of Defense to acquire alternative energy vehicles.

Page 32: $1.5 billion (with a “B”) for a “carbon-capturing contest”

Page 64: $3.5 billion for higher education facilities. This is ridiculous as I know in Georgia the Board of Regents has imposed a “temporary” (yea right!) $75 fee per student during this economic crisis. The funds from this per-student fee stays at the school and is used to offset current budget shortfalls.

We at AASU are starting construction on our new student center, all paid for by student fees. No tax money has been used during any process of this planning. How about asking other higher education institutions to do the same, or hold off on any renovations, additions, etc.?

What is especially funny though is that during today’s press conference before the vote, Robert Gibbs was asked repeatedly about all these little pork projects. Over and over again he kept saying that we shouldn’t worry about those things and focus on the bigger picture.

The $75 million for smoking cessation was brought up several times by reporters and one even asked why that money couldn’t be better used for helping people out instead of this pork. Same response: don’t worry about it.

Well, given that the GOP all voted against the bill in the house, they are definitely making a statement that this is solely on the democrats lap and they will fall with it. Unfortunately we still have to pick up the tab.

The house republicans took a stand today and note one voted for the democrat stimulus plan. This despite Obama meeting with GOP leaders the other day. About time they took a stand.

Here is the vote count:

With the big three automakers in all kinds of financial troubles, not to mention a down economy where people are buying fewer new vehicles, Obama decides to make it even harder for them.

Today he issued two memorandums. One is for the Transportation Department to work with the automakers on improving fuel economy, up to 35mpg by 2011. And he says this will help the auto industry produce viable products. How the hell does he know that? Has he ever owned a business let alone built autos? They have a viable product now, the problem is cost and this surely isn’t going to help reduce costs.

By mandating this memorandum alone he is going to either increase the R&D costs of vehicles drastically, or force auto makers to stop producing vehicles that Americans actually want.

He just signed their death certificates.

But, it gets better. The second memorandum requests that California gets the waiver they are seeking to increase emissions standards by a further 30 percent. Consumers are really going to love it when their special California vehicles are much higher than the national average.

He actually says:

This is an energy triple play that will cut global warming pollution, increase innovation, and reduce our dependence on foreign oil. It show what a visionary president is capable of doing, and the faith he has in the economic revival that America’s automotive and energy industries can produce

This is visionary? Killing off the automakers could be considered visionary I suppose. Some might call it a nightmare more than anything else. He sure thinks a lot of himself doesn’t he?

You have to love the tact, the control, the (almost) presidential style of Hillary Clinton.

From Gateway Pundit:

“Where is the G-damn f**king flag? I want the G-damn f**king flag up every f**king morning at f**king sunrise.”
(From the book “Inside The White House” by Ronald Kessler, p. 244 – Hillary to the staff at the Arkansas Governor’s mansion on Labor Day, 1991)

“You sold out, you mother f**ker! You sold out!”
From the book “Inside” by Joseph Califano, p. 213 – Hillary yelling at Democrat lawyer.

I love this next one. Nothing respecting your constituents:

F**k off! It’s enough that I have to see you shit-kickers every day, I’m not going to talk to you too!! Just do your G*damn job and keep your mouth shut.”
(From the book “American Evita” by Christopher Anderson, p. 90 – Hillary to her State Trooper bodyguards after one of them greeted her with “Good morning.”

“You f**king idiot.”
(From the book “Crossfire” p. 84 – Hillary to a State Trooper who was driving her to an event.)

“If you want to remain on this detail, get your f**king ass over here and grab those bags!”
(From the book “The First Partner” p. 259 – Hillary to a Secret Service Agent who was reluctant to carry her luggage because he wanted to keep his hands free in case of an incident.)

“Get f**ked! Get the f**k out of my way!!! Get out of my face!!!”
(From the book “Hillary’s Scheme” p. 89 – Hillary’s various comments to her Secret Service detail agents.)

“Stay the f**k back, stay the f**k away from me! Don’t come within ten yards of me, or else! Just f**king do as I s ay, Okay!!!?”
(From the book “Unlimited Access”, by Clinton FBI Agent in Charge, Gary Aldrige, p. 139 – Hillary screaming at her Secret Service detail.)

“Why do I have to keep proving to people that I am not a liar?!”
(From the book “The Survivor,” by John Harris, p. 382 – Hillary in her 2000 Senate campaign)

“Where’s the miserable c*ck sucker?”
(From the book “The Truth About Hillary” by Edward Klein, p. 5 – Hillary shouting at a Secret Service officer)

“Put this on the ground! I left my sunglasses in the limo. I need those sunglasses. We need to go back!”
(From the book “Dereliction of Duty” p. 71-72 – Hillary to Marine One helicopter pilot to turn back while en route to Air Force One.)

A right-wing network was after his presidency…including perverting the Constitution.”
(To Barbara Walters about the Republicans who impeached her husband; 20/20, ABC 6/8/2003.)

“What are you doing inviting these people into my home? These people are our enemies! They are trying to destroy us!”
(From the book “The Survivor” by John Harris, p. 99 – Hillary screaming to an aide, when she found out that some Republicans had been invited to the Clinton White House)

“Come on Bill, put your dick up! You can’t f**k her here!!”
(From the book “Inside The White House” by Ronald Kessler, p. 243 – Hillary to Gov. Clinton when she spots him talking with an attractive female at an Arkansas political rally)

I feel sorry for the men and women of the Secret Service who have to protect this bitch. I wonder what will happen if some foreign diplomat hears her say some of these things.

More wonderful “change” in this new administration. A tax cheat has just become head of the IRS. The hypocrisy here is damn funny to say the least. However, what I can’t wait for is the first person to sue the IRS and this as their defense. I can see it now…

Auditor: You owe us $50,000 in back taxes

Tax Payer: Oh? Tell that to your boss. It was a “careless mistake”.

Auditor: That doesn’t matter

Tax Payer: Tell that to your boss

Auditor: uh….

Jan 21

A contradiction? Not really. You see I want Obama to fail on a few certain items. National health care for example. Those kinds of social programs are the kinds of things that we can’t get rid of once in place. The disasters that are Social Security, Medicaid, Medicare, etc. are absolute failures yet we cannot get rid of them.

However I want him to succeed in his disastrous plans for raising taxes, spending uncontrollably, etc. Why? Because in doing so I hope that the American people will see what a failure the Democrat philosophy is. Tax everybody and everything, spend every one else’s money and drive our country into the ground.

The beauty is that if he succeeds in doing these things, he will ultimately fail. Fail in getting a second term. Fail his party (much like George Bush has in many ways) and people will wake up from the euphoria they are currently in over him.

The one area in which I truly wish him to succeed is in keeping this country safe. But somehow I don’t see that happening. He won’t be able to keep Iran from getting a nuclear weapon. He won’t be able to stop Russia from exerting their influence, and already radical muslims around the world are hating on him. His soft stance on terrorists will only make things worse.

Top that off with bringing someone like Janet Napolitano, who is known for being soft on security, in to run Homeland Security, someone like Leon Panetta to head CIA with no intelligence experience at all and what do you have? A disaster in the making.

So with a few exceptions, I hope he does succeed. The only problem with that is it will make the next president’s job even more difficult than this one.

By being the first president in 56 years to blow off the “Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball”, which honors recipients of the Congressional Medal of Honor. Of all the balls he attended, you would think he would have enough class to honor the military. After all, he is the commander in chief now.

hillary_clintonWith Hillary’s confirmation today on Secretary of State, that makes Bill the most powerful lobbyist in Washington. How this can be allowed in American politics is just absurd. Bill’s ‘donations’ from foreign countries are now well known and Hillary is now the top diplomat in the country. How can there not be a conflict of interest here?

You can sure bet that these foreign donaters will be calling up Bill whenever something arises. It’ll be interesting to see how many scandals sprout up from this.

Have these people no shame? No respect for their country and its flag? Obviously not…

After all, they are just following the leadership of their cause…
