You gotta love the spin that Bob Geiger put in this post regarding a quote from senator John Warner. Bob says

Senator John Warner (R-VA) made that observation in a November 15 meeting of the Senate Armed Services Committee, which he chairs, when he noted that Sunday would mark the day when U.S. involvement in Iraq exceeded that of World War II.

What is wrong with this?

There is a huge difference between what the senator said and what Bob says via his post title. The senator said ‘involvement’, Bob said ‘war’. Naturally Bob seems to think that involvement is the same as war, which it clearly isn’t. The ‘war’ with Iraq ended years ago, while the involvement hasn’t yet ended. Yes people are still fighting and dying, but the war isn’t with Iraq, it is with terrorists who happen to be in Iraq.

To put this in perspective, to use Bob’s grouping of these two terms, he would be saying that we are still at war with Germany after 50 years. Why? Well, we are still there aren’t we? We still have military bases there and have since WWII ended. No, we are not fighting and soldiers are not dying, but we are there and involved are we not? What about Korea? Hey, technically we are still at war with them even though there is no fighting (at the moment).

Spin is one thing, but completely changing the context of what someone says is completely different.

So Flyer and Fryer got pardoned this morning and they get to go to Disney World. However, in a strange twist Nancy Pelosi is really upset over this because they didn’t get to collect any estate taxes due to the turkeys’ deaths. The ACLU has also joined in and decided that this is discriminatory against other holiday fowl such as ducks and chickens while at the same time arguing that the turkeys’ civil rights were violated by being paraded around on TV for political gain. To complete the hat trick the ACLU also said that it was discriminatory against native Americans because, well, it just was.

Ok, how many jokes can we make out this one?? Apparently he was dickless to begin with, so he goes and gets an enlargement and isn’t happy with it so he decided to mail a bomb to the doctor? How messed up is that? Sounds like the guy went to the wrong kind of doctor!

Here is the article.

I just read this from Political Dishonesty, and I love it. I’ve always believed the democratic party was the biggest hyprocricy I’ve ever seen and this just helps to prove it.

Seriously, any idiot who thinks anybody (let alone blacks) go into the military because they are “gold diggers” obviously hasn’t seen the paychecks these guys and gals get. Let me tell you, there are a lot of military personnel that are under the poverty line. It must be fools gold they are after.

Now yes, a lot of kids join the military because of some of the college benefits they can receive, and I’m not against that, even though it isn’t much of a benefit (with the exception of the Air Force’s). However, to completely categorize any group like Rangel has done when they are the ones that support his ideology is just stupid.

I’m sure this won’t get much media attention though. With the overwhelming liberal bias and the fact that democrats are the masters of spin will pretty much guarantee that this won’t make it to any serious headlines.

The closing statement on the post mentioned is very interesting and true. The ironic thing though is that the democrats in power are also rich and white (for the most part). Amazing huh?

Face it, the middle class squeeze is a term designed to invoke an emotion against the rich. Pure and simple.

I did some reading around and the various viewpoints are quite interesting. Take for example this quote from AlterNet

Raising the minimum wage and indexing it to inflation is part of the middle-class agenda. Directing funding to make child care services available to low-income workers is part of the middle-class agenda. Strong workplace rights regulations that help Americans join labor unions is part of the middle-class agenda. Putting an end to predatory lending is part of the middle-class agenda.

Oh? I don’t remember any of that being on my agenda or anyone that I know for that matter. I don’t want the minimum wage raised. I don’t want government funding for child care services, and I sure as hell don’t want more labor unions as part of my agenda. Predatory lending practices? So you want to reward people for not reading the fine print?

Even so, how does all of this affect the rich? What, they are supposed to pay more taxes so that the government can tell you that they are helping you out? And you actually believe that crap?

Perhaps the middle class is being squeezed, and in two ways. First, they are being squeezed into a higher income bracket, according to the Cato Institute, citing August 2006 census numbers. You know what, I’ll bet those being squeezed into the upper income brackets aren’t working for union either.

The second way the middle class is being squeezed is by themselves. Yep, you are to blame for your own problems. Sure your taxes could be lower, sure college could be more affordable, and yes it would be nice if you didn’t have to worry about retirement or even health care costs. But let’s face it, most of these problems can’t be solved by the government in any kind of efficient manner. The middle class should be smart enough to take care of themselves without government intervention. Some common sense and planning would go along way to keeping your sorry ass out of trouble so you don’t have to go crying to the government for help. That old say “Piss poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part”. Amen. The same applies to this situation.

Look at it this way, if you are making 35k-75k a year and are struggling so bad that you want the government’s help, maybe you need to take a few lessons from the millions of illegal immigrants who are here making far less than you do, managing to live day to day and still send money home to their families. If you seriously think the government can do a good job at anything, then you must never have worked for the government. It is the single most inefficient organization there is. All it will do is raise the cost of everything it does because it can’t do anything without squandering money.

The only squeezing going on is by people squeezing themselves. If you didn’t have that $50,000 SUV, $4,000 TV, kept your hands off of your credit cards and all of the other amenities that just can’t live without you might be able to save a little bit of money and not feel so bad. But nah, that would be too easy wouldn’t it?

So before you start championing your democrat officials (who are by no means middle class I might add), why don’t you take a hard look at yourself instead?

Just how far will you go to get that nice new PS3? Will you perform some stupid act? Will you attempt to bribe WalMart? Or perhaps you would camp outside some store and then decide to start shooting people?

Yep, all of these things have been in the headlines. Remember this isn’t for tickets to the Rolling Stone’s fair well tour, or see the return of the Messiah, nope, these are people performing these acts to get a hold of the Sony PS3.

So, just how do you go about getting one and feeling good about? Do what most sane people do. Go to the store and if it sold out, go to another store. If it is sold out everywhere, wait till after Christmas. Really, it will be ok.

My inagural entry in the Total Stupidity category, it seems that this idiot got his jaw broke while trying to get a PS3 in a promotion — Man Injured In PlayStation 3 Promotion Melee 3:26.

Seriously, it is amazing just how far people will go to get the latest fad item. Back in the day it was Cabbage Patch Kids, then Beanie babie and the Tickle Me Elmo. Now it’s the latest console game machines.

For God sakes, get a grip on yourself!

I’m not sure if this is real or not, but I got this email forwarded to me by my wife. I fucking love it!

This will warm your heart, especially if you have lost faith in human kindness. This letter was sent to the principal’s office after an elementary school had sponsored a luncheon for the elderly. An old lady had received a new radio at the lunch as a door prize, and was writing to say thank you.

Dear Faculty and Students,
God bless you for the beautiful radio I won at your recent Senior citizens’ luncheon. I am 84 years old and live at an Assisted Home for the Aged. All of my family has passed away. I am all alone now and it’s nice to know someone is thinking of me. God bless you for your kindness to an old forgotten lady.

My roommate is 95 and always had her own radio. Before I Received this one, she would never let me listen to hers, even when she Was napping.

The other day, her radio fell off the night stand and broke into a lot of little pieces. It was awful and she was in tears. She asked if she could listen to mine, and I said “fuck you”.

Thank you for that opportunity.
Sincerely,
Betty Smith

MSN has
this story about Borat’s victims being duped by his antics. Ok, the woman at the news network shouldn’t have gotten fired for letting him on the news for an interview, but these other dumb asses deserve it. Case in point, the college kids who got drunk and said a bunch of stupid — albeit funny — stuff are actually trying to sue. Can you believe that? They acted like morons and got exposed, so now they want to sue? What kind of bullshit is that?

If these cry babies can’t take a joke then piss on them. Sacha has got some big balls to have pulled off the stuff he did and I say bravo. He deserves every penny he gets from that movie. The way he offended people was both funny as hell and down right audacious. I loved it!

I hope he gets an Oscar.

While a bit overly alarmist, this is still pretty damn funny:
